Mexico’s Magnificent Terra Cotta

Though Metapec is best known for terra cotta in Mexico, in truth wonderful terra cotta work comes from all over Mexico. Come see the variety for in our mini-exhibit, up for a limited time only.

12/3/2009  Ornaments galore as well as lots of small nativity ornaments and some wonderful Peruvian Nativity retablos as a great price.

12/1/2009  Lots of funky new jewelry and purses.

11/26/2009 Nativities (a huge number of beautiful ones from Tonala), large terra cotta crosses, paper mache Catrinas (the nicest in paper mache we have seen and at an incredible price) along with a Frida, large and small tin angel candleholders, ceramic catrinas, paper mache dolls, and two large terra cotta St. Frances for the garden.

9/25/2009  Still more talavera--some wonderful blue and white patterns among others.

8/28/2009  From Dolores Hidalgo, some new Talavera platters, suns, animals (chihuahuas, butterflies, etc.), and lovely new urns.

8/2009 Larry has created some wonderful new Day of the Dead jewelry that is both inexpensive and fun. (It is also exclusive to Casa Mexicana.) His jewelry-making supplies came from Mexico City along with a number of other skeletons and skulls.

6/5/2009 Also from Guanajuato we have a number of tin hearts, painted santos in Ramos Filemon style (including San Pascual), paper mache flying heart ornaments, and a large paper mache Catrina dancer.

6/2/2009 From Guanajuato (mostly San Miguel de Allende) Day of the Dead miniature boxes, small tin boxes featuring the Virgin, Frida, or Day of the Dead designs, carved wood nichos and santos including the Virgin and St. Jude (patron saint of hopeless causes), large wood and milagro crosses and hearts, large tin mirrors, and several wonderful nichos and crosses by David.

5/30/2009 Southwest style purses (bags), earrings, and inexpensive copper bracelets for arthritis (all different designs), beautiful silver cross pendants and semiprecious stone arrowhead pendants.  Turquoise and silver necklaces.

4/25/2009- Funky jewelry made of wood, shell, seeds, and other natural objects has arrived from Mexico City and Puebla. 

4/10/2009- Fabric items from Mexico City including purses and sarapes as well as funky new bead earrings. 

3/30/2009- Wonderful and inexpensive turqoise jewelry from Taxco has been added to our collection. 

/20/2009- Beautiful silver and semi-precious stone jewelry from Taxco has come in.

1/15/2009- Beautiful things from Morelia--large tin skeletons, masks, wall art. 

12/13/2008- We have just taken delivery on a beautiful new selection of scented candles made especially for us and inspired by Frida Kahlo, Catrina, and the Virgin of Guadalupe. The scents are unique blends and the design of the candles is understated and lovely. There are also some painted reproductions of popular lotteria signs for the wall. 

12/5/2008- Lots of new tin decor --hearts and mirrors, crosses and nichos--many by David, all from San Miguel and beautifully made. We even have a few of the flying heart valances that are so popular.

12/1/2008- Wonderful new cards (religious and Day of the Dead, some Christmasy) and Day of the Dead t-shirts arrived today, all special ordered and exclusive to Casa Mexicana.

11/13/2008- Christmas explosion. Ornaments, both tin and paper mache. Painted tin sconces--perfect as decorations. Coconut masks and coconut and canvas “puppet” dolls. 

11/7/2008- New jewelry shipment. And we had needed it! Beautiful new silver and semi-precious stone pieces. 

10/23/2008- Shipment from Morelia includes masks, ornaments and paintings.
